Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued 3,500 invitations in an Express Entry draw on October 1, 2026. The round targeted candidates eligible under the Trades Occupations category and set a Comprehensive Ranking System cutoff score of 476. This was the 447th Express Entry round overall and the second trades-focused draw of 2026, following one held on April 2.

Comparison with previous trades round

Compared to the earlier 2026 draw, the October round increased the number of invitations while slightly lowering the required score. The April round had invited 3,000 candidates with a CRS cutoff of 477.

Draw DateInvitations IssuedCRS Cutoff Score
April 2, 20263,000477
October 1, 20263,500476

The October draw therefore issued 500 more invitations and lowered the cutoff by one point.

Eligibility and selection mechanics

Candidates needed a rank of 3,500 or better to receive an invitation. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said: "Anyone invited needed a rank of 3,500 or better." For candidates with the minimum score of 476, a tie-breaking rule based on profile submission time was applied. Only profiles submitted on or before May 28, 2026, at 16:55:23 UTC were invited. Those who submitted their profile after that timestamp, despite having a score of 476, did not receive an invitation.

Occupational focus and program context

The draw targeted candidates with work experience in designated trade occupations such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, welders, contractors, and heavy-duty equipment mechanics. Cooks were removed from the eligible trades category earlier in 2026, narrowing the occupational mix. Eligible candidates must be in the Express Entry pool through one of three programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates can build their CRS scores through language test results, Canadian work experience, provincial nominations, or a valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment.

Broader immigration trends

The October 1 draw was the third Express Entry round in four days, following a Provincial Nominee Program round on September 28 and a Canadian Experience Class round on September 29. The trades round cutoffs, at 476 and 477, were about 40 points lower than the 518 CRS required for the most recent Canadian Experience Class round. The two 2026 trades rounds together issued a total of 6,500 invitations. This October draw brought the cumulative 2026 invitation total to 135,215 across 59 rounds. As of September 27, the Express Entry pool contained 229,904 candidates, with 16,465 of those having CRS scores between 471 and 480. The gap of nearly six months between the April and October trades draws illustrates that category-specific rounds are not scheduled in advance. A stronger language test result or additional qualifying work experience could move a candidate's score into eligibility for a future round. Invited candidates have 60 days from October 1, 2026, to submit a complete permanent residence application.
